THE AMERICAN DREAM!

I was born on October 2, 1949 and was the 4th child in a family of 6 children.  My Dad was a math teacher and my Mom was a housewife.  I was always one of the smallest students in school.  When I graduated from high school, I was 5’6” and I weighed 145 lbs.

When I graduated from high school I got a baseball scholarship to college because of my older brother, Jeff.  Jeff was a great pitcher, and my Dad forced the coach to give me a scholarship by threatening to send my brother to another college.  I ended up making the NCAA Division II All-American team my last 2 years in college.

In 1971, I signed a professional baseball contract with the Washington Senators.  My pro career lasted almost 16 years and I played for the Texas Rangers, Chicago White Sox, and the Kansas City Royals.  As a Royal, I played with George Brett, Frank White, Bo Jackson, Gaylord Perry and many other stars.

I hope that you can experience success in whatever you choose to do.  Remember, through Gods help, you can do anything that you want in life, if you want it bad enough.

God Bless you and your DREAMS and God Bless America and the freedom to purse those DREAMS!

Be Your Best!

How to be a Better Baseball Player

(From Greg Pryor--MLB infielder--Chicago White Sox--Kansas City Royals)

1.       Strive to be teachable.

2.       Ask for help.

3.       Hey All-Star, there will always be somebody better than you somewhere so leave your ego at home.

4.       Get along with your teammates; it is something that you can control.

5.       Nobody wants to hear your excuses; they have their own problems.

6.       If you have good practice habits, you will improve your chances to succeed.

7.       Treat your glove like it is your friend.

8.       The baseball knows if you are scared.

9.       I prefer infielders with quick feet and average arms over slow feet and cannons.

10.    Look for ways to commend the performance of your teammate(s).

11.    Hope that every pitch will be hit to you and think that it will be!

12.    The ball will always find the guy who isn’t concentrating.

13.    Learn how to get your fingertips on the seams ASAP before throwing in practice and in games.

14.    Throw over the top so that the ball carries and is easier to catch by teammates.

15.    An over-aggressive fielder will get to more balls than an under-aggressive one.

16.    If you bobble a ball, use your bare hand to pick it up--not the glove.

17.    Find ways to get a stronger grip.

18.    Anticipate where the ball will be hit so that you can get a better jump.

19.    Develop your own style of getting ready for pitches.

20.    Work on your feet quickness every chance you get.

21.    Know where you are going to throw the ball before it is hit to you.

22.    Run everything out, especially balls hit back to the pitcher.

23.    Look forward to hitting with runners on base.

24.    Don’t worry; you are going to get another hit no matter how bad you are going.

25.    Respect your parents, coaches, and teachers—you can learn something from each one of them.

26.    Learn how to be a good leader.  If you are not the leader type, then be a great follower.

27.    Ted Williams and Wade Boggs almost always took a strike before hitting.  Both are in the Hall of Fame.

28.    If you hit with two strikes all of the time, you are leaving your at-bat in the hands of an umpire who may be in a hurry to get home.

29.    Learn to be a great two-strike hitter.

30.    The best pitch that you will see all day might be the next one.

31.     Hitting line drives that are caught will help build maturity and character.
31.    Add your own tips! Experience is the best teacher!

My Prostate Priority Testiomony Letter

From 1971 to 1986, I was a professional baseball player, and was paid to stay in shape. As I aged, staying healthy turned into a life long quest, and since 1991, I have been actively involved in the health and nutrition industry. I found out that I need to add certain nutrients to my diet each day via supplements, since my food didn’t provide me with what I needed. When I turned forty, I began to become aware of how important my prostate gland was to my health.

As men turn forty years of age, hormonal changes make maintaining the health of the prostate gland an increasingly important priority, because of the many valuable functions a prostate performs. The prostate is a small, walnut shaped gland located just under the bladder in men. Part of the reproductive system, the prostate encircles the first section of the urethra (the tube that carries urine) and is responsible for producing and secreting a nutrient–rich fluid that protects and helps transport sperm.

Prostate Priority contains six different nutrients (zinc, vitamin D3, saw palmetto extract, pygeum extract, pumpkin seed oil extract, and cycopene) that help keep the prostate healthy. One of these nutrients, saw palmetto, has been proven to be an effective nutritional tool for prostate health in numerous studies. Pygeum has also been widely studied and used in Europe, and has shown prostate supporting benefits based on many clinical studies.

The reason prostate health is so important is because there are a number of health concerns involving the prostate, especially for men over the age of forty. Prostatitis is the build up of pressure in the prostate due to an accumulation of semen or fluids, usually because of a bacterial infection. Acute or chronic Prostatitis affects more men than any other prostate health concern. Benign Prostatic Hypertrophyor Prostate Enlargement (BPH) affects most men over the age of sixty. BPH interferes with the flow of urine from the bladder, which can produce mild to severe urinary obstruction. BPH is one of the most prevalent health problems for aging men. Prostate Cancer affects one in nine men, and is most common in African Americans, men over forty, and men with a family history of prostate cancer. This disease causes 31,500 deaths per year. The early stages of prostate cancer are difficult to detect, so a prostate specific antigen test (PSA) is recommended if you are concerned about having prostate cancer.

Prostate Priority does not cause any side effects. Customers who are on medication or who have further concerns about their prostate health are encouraged to talk to their physicians before using any supplementation.

Our goal at Life Priority is to help our family, loyal friends, and valued customers make educated and informed choices regarding their health. We encourage you to keep a Health Journal and to use the preceding information and reference materials along with the help of your health care professional to make informed and healthy decisions.

To your health,

Greg Pryor

Abdominal Massage Tips

Most people get massage for either pain relief or relaxation. Abdominal massage can have benefits to both goals, but is often overlooked by therapists. Abdominal massage can improve breathing and digestion ease stomach cramps, spastic colon, difficult menstrual cycles, and constipation and increase the delivery of oxygen and nutrients to the area while eliminating metabolic waste from the organs and structures in the area. Illness or poor body mechanics during work or play can cause severe muscle strain in the muscles that connect the spine and pelvis and provide support. This can lead to lower back pain and pain through the hip, glutes, and thigh.

Here’s a simple abdominal massage you can do for yourself at home.

  1. Lie down on your back on a bed or the floor. It is sometimes helpful to place a pillow beneath your knees to ease pressure on the low back. Place the fingers of both hands on your lower right abdomen, just to the inside of your hipbone.
  2. Using a light lotion or oil, glide your hands upward to about two inches below your ribcage. From there, travel across your stomach from right to left, and then down to just inside the hipbone on your left. Glide across to the right to the point where you began. This is tracing the path the direction in which matter passes through the colon. Once you’ve become familiar with the path, you can use a bit more pressure, but do not cause yourself any discomfort. Follow the pattern at least three times. All strokes should be in this counter-clockwise motion. (When working on yourself, it is counter-clockwise, while from a therapist’s perspective it would be clockwise.)
  3. Again using your fingers, travel the same pattern, making small circles counter-clockwise. You should begin to be able to distinguish the feel of the colon under your fingers and within. Follow the colon around the abdomen using the same counter-clockwise path. Do this three times, beginning at the lower right just inside the hipbone.
  4. Place the heel of your hand in the area where your ribcage joins in the center of your chest. In order not to put undue pressure on any bones in this area, move your hand down until you are just below the bone, and begin the stroke there. Gently stroke downward toward your navel five or six times. You may increase pressure to your comfort level, but do not cause yourself discomfort. This stroke is designed to relax the diaphragm, which is sometimes implicated in acid-reflux, or even asthma.
  5. Finally, to stretch out those muscles causing low back and hip pain, lie on your side. Roll the topmost shoulder backward so that it touches the floor. (If you can!) Roll your topmost hip forward, letting your body weight stretch you. Do not force this stretch. Hold for 30-45 seconds. Switch sides. If you need a bit extra stretch you may raise the topmost knee toward your chest to your comfort level. Do not force or strain yourself on this stretch.

Good luck! And next time you visit your therapist, ask if he or she is familiar with abdominal massage techniques and if so, request to have it added to your sessions and experience the benefits for yourself!

Depression and Vitamin D Deficiency: Overlooked

Yes, you thought you were getting vitamin D in milk. Well you are, but that D is D2, not the bio-available, the useful, D3. The Vitamin D council has a great newsletter, discusses the various perspectives of the research, and is designed for easy review. Toxicity and levels all discussed in detail.
